In 1978 Janet moved to London, arriving at a time when the ‘East End’ - with its affordable housing and studios - provided a haven for artists. During the 80’s and 90’s she worked in both painting and printmaking and exhibited widely as a member of the Printmakers Council. Since relocating studios to Deptford in 2000 Janet has concentrated on painting.
Janet maintains her links to her Scottish roots as an artist-member of Paisley Art Institute and the Royal Glasgow Institute with whom she has exhibited over the years.
In regard to her work, Janet comments "For me, Still Life has always been a way of combining shapes, colours and patterns. My studio is filled with favourite objects and junk shop finds. The occasional plant comes and goes along with fruit and flowers. One of my earliest influences was my grandmother who taught me china painting and the delights of making a "find" in a flea market."
